Does He Like Me? Mixed signals? HELP?

well a while ago like a few months this guy, "W" was talking to me and he got crushed by this girl and we saw each other at a party and he was really upset so i stayed with him and gave him a hug ...more like 12 haha and then i asked him out like a few weeks later and he said hes not up to dating after what happened. so now like a year later he IMs me saying id promise youd be the first one to know, im up to dating again. i thought to myself he remembered? like whats that supposed to mean. we talked and then he kept sayiing hes open now, hes available.. im so confused of what i should say or do. please help me.
